Stephanie Gordon, L.Ac., MSTOM
Founder, Co-Owner, Licensed Acupuncturist
Gordon has bachelor’s degrees in nutrition and education; as well as a master’s degree in traditional Oriental medicine from the Midwest College of Oriental Medicine in Chicago.
She worked as a certified birth doula for several years, which led her to conduct frequent research on safe and effective alternative treatments for pregnant women who wanted to avoid taking prescription drugs or having surgeries. Often, the answer to a client’s ailments seemed to be acupuncture; but when asked by one woman whether the procedure is painful, Gordon decided to find out for herself.
“After six sessions, I found that I’d been cured of my debilitating migraines, which I’d suffered with for my whole life until that point,” she said. “And it was then that I knew what I wanted to do in life: further my education and enter the medical field, but in an alternative practice. So I went back to school to study acupuncture, herbs, nutrition, massage and exercise. I worked as an independent contractor at a few different clinics before I started Sacred Dunes.”
In addition to running her practice, Gordon is the Health and Wellness Coordinator and teacher at The Social and Learning Institute, a non- profit organization that works with adults with developmental disabilities and a member of the Michigan City Area Chamber of Commerce, Lakefront Career Network, and Uptown Arts District Merchants Association.
Stephanie is honored to be a staple in the Michigan City community offering safe and integrative medicine. “Don’t be fooled by the name alternative, it is not my way or the highway. I am always glad to integrate with all physicians of my patient’s medical team.”
Lindsay Negrelli-Gawat, LMT
Co-Owner, Licensed Massage Therapist
Negrelli-Gawat received her license in massage therapy from the Soma Institute in Chicago; and she is currently working toward her aromatherapist certification at Aromahead Institute. She began by massaging mostly athletes and people with hip problems; but began to specialize in prenatal, fertility and post-partum massage after linking up with a local birth community following the traumatic birth of her son.
“I’ve always had a passion for helping people,” Negrelli-Gawat said. “When my aunt was diagnosed with breast cancer, I saw what a huge difference massage made in not only her physical health but her mental health. So I enrolled at Soma because I wanted to help others and show them they can feel good without taking a bunch of pharmaceuticals. When someone leaves my table feeling noticeably better than when they came in, that is such an amazing feeling to me.”
Negrelli-Gawat regularly speaks at hospitals, nursing homes and other health care facilities about the benefits of massage to leading naturally healthy lifestyles. She says her partnership with Gordon at Sacred Dunes Alternative Health felt like the best fit, as the two share a passion for women’s health, support women and mothers in business, and tend to balance each other well both personally and professionally.
In addition to her work at Sacred Dunes, Negrelli-Gawat is the fundraising coordinator for Field Station Cooperative Preschool in Chesterton, Indiana.
Jenn has been practicing yoga for over 7 years. Her first experiences focused primarily on asana for strength and for learning to let go. Her Hatha yoga class incorporates vinyasa flow and often includes yoga nidra, a highly relaxed state of consciousness between waking and sleeping. Jenn strives to connect with all students, encouraging the awareness of the present moment and the power of the breath on and off the mat.
